BRANDEN B. MUHL
Branden Muhl was raised in Kansas City & South Central Iowa.
Growing up, he took interest in business at an early age. His family owned Mahaska Bottling Company, a traditional PepsiCo & Dr Pepper Snapple Group franchise bottling and distribution company. When Branden was 8, he began working odd jobs in the warehouse. By age 12, he was driving a forklift and loading trucks. By 14, he was delivering product to customers off of route trucks, taking orders, and merchandising for national retail customers. Throughout high school & college, Branden worked for several employers outside of Mahaska including HyVee, a finance internship in Tokyo, and a startup technology company.
Branden attended The University of Michigan where he studied business at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. In school, he was President of Theta Chi Fraternity and the Interfraternity Council (IFC); and a member of Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Fraternity, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). Branden graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2004.
After college, Branden set his sights beyond the Midwest and landed in New York City where he spent eight years on Wall Street as an equity portfolio manager. He worked at investment banks and hedge funds including Lehman Brothers and Balyasny Asset Management, where he focused on healthcare equities, primarily in biotechnology & pharmaceuticals. He saw much success using a blend of fundamental and technical analysis and gained extensive experience in portfolio management. During the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009, Branden generated positive absolute returns.
By virtue of his fascination in the growing healthcare and pharma industry, Branden founded The B Group, his own long-short equity investment company specializing in biotechnology, genetic sequencing, and molecular diagnostic equities. In recent years, The B Group has expanded to pursue private investments.
Upon his father’s retirement and transition to Chairman of the Board in 2012, Branden purchased Mahaska Bottling Company becoming a 5th generation family owner operator (7th generation overall).
As CEO of Mahaska, Branden drives overall vision and strategy for the company. He continues to expand upon his father’s business development efforts by building an independently owned brand portfolio and engaging in territorial expansion.
Currently, Muhl is involved in management of diverse business interest, serves on multiple Boards of Directors, and is involved in a number of organizations across multiple industries. These businesses & organizations include Anthro.is, B Group Capital, Greystone Hotel Miami, Independent Bottler’s Association (IBA), JOMAST, KBOE/KMZN, Odin Brands, and YPO (Dallas Chapter).
